coaching
Being a leader people around you expect that you stay calm and that you are trustworthy. There can be moments when you feel that you're in over your head and that you have lost track of your destination. You might even feel lonely. At times like this you might need support. Someone helping you gain clarity on what's really important. Directing your energy, helping you get back on track.
In coaching sessions with me, we are working towards clear goals, starting from YOUR reality. Together we will reflect, twist and turn new ideas, discover restraining forces that is hindering you and find the driving forces that will make you succeed.
I will challenge you to try new things, to dare to be vulnerable and to learn from your mistakes. I will be by your side in the arena!
TEAMS
Complex tasks require complex collaboration and problem solving. Team work has become increasingly important in the modern organization, in fact collaborative activities has increased by up to 50% over the last decades (HBR, Jan-Feb issue 2016). As human beings we have it in our DNA – social belonging has always been the key to survival. Yet, we all know how difficult it can be!
According to research on team development, a team goes through a number of stages before it can focus, fully and completely, on its task. When a group first comes together they are a collection of co-workers and the goal is to become a high performing team. That doesn´t just happen, it takes hard work. As a manager you might think that your employees are working hard and therefore must be already highly efficient. Working intensely individually doesn’t necessarily mean that they are doing the right things, in the right way or even towards the same goal.
Research shows that working with team development in a structured way lead to increased efficiency. The most effective efforts are those that involve goal clarification, closely followed by initiatives that involve clarification of the role (Klein, DiazGranados, Salas, Le, Burke, Lyons & Goodwin, 2009).
Teams that regularly stop and reflect on their collaboration and team work increases their efficiency by an average of 25% (Tannenbaum & Cerasoli, 2013).
Striving to always work with evidence based methods I choose Susan Wheelan´s Group Development Quesionnaire (GDQ) as a starting- and finishing point when working with team development assignments (depending on the analysis done in cooperation with the customer). GDQ gives a picture of the team's efficiency and productivity compared to a large number of other teams, and points out which questions the team needs to work with to develop in the right direction. The focus is on the team's joint responsibility for its development.
leadership programs
I am convinced that the way to healthy and successful organizations goes through leadership. My view of leadership comes from a system centered perspective. I see leadership as a function of the collaboration with the leader and the context he or she is operating in. Successful leadership is not only depending on the skills of the leader but also of the organizations ability to give the right prerequisites to succeed.
Learning new behavior requires that people involve both thoughts, feelings and their own experiences. Effective leadership training therefore needs to include theory, experience-based training, reflection and exercises in translating new behaviors into everyday work life.
A typical leadership program would cover aspects as:
Role Goal Context – understanding your role as a leader
Self-awareness
Teams – stages of development
Communication – problem solving communication, feedback, challenging conversations
Creating Psychological safety and a learning organization
Change Management
Sustainable Leadership – how to focus your energy on the right things
